Deborah Holbrook Family Law, Christian Lawyer

DEBORAH HOLBROOK

Deborah was born and raised in Toronto and completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto with highest honours. She practiced at a full service Bay Street firm for almost 10 years before starting her own practice at Holbrook Family Law. Deborah’s practice is client-centred, child focused and results oriented. Deborah has extensive experience resolving family law matters both in and out of the courtroom. Her approach is to assess the unique facts of each matter and to recommend the process she believes will be most efficient and effective to achieve the right result. Deborah’s clients repeatedly report that she is professional, knowledgeable, caring and competent.
        Deborah is a firm believer in giving back to her community. Deborah serves on the boards of not-for-profit organizations including World Vision Canada and Forest Brook Community Church. Deborah volunteers at Luke’s Place in Oshawa, where she provides legal advice to women leaving abusive relationships. She is also on the panel for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer and represents children in litigation and for the purpose of adoption.
        Deborah is a member of the Durham Region Collaborative Practice, the Durham Region Lawyers’ Association and the Law Society of Ontario.

JAMES P. BIRD

Jim joined the firm in March 2020. Jim previously practiced law in Alberta at a general practice firm for over 7 years as a senior associate with an emphasis in Family Law and Civil Litigation.
        Jim has represented clients on many complex family law and civil matters appearing regularly in the different levels of Court. Jim has also completed extensive training in Mediation and alternative dispute resolution strategies and applies these skills when helping clients resolve matters outside of Court. Jim’s common-sense approach to advocacy and resolving disputes has earned him the respect of colleagues and opponents and produced favourable results for his clients.
        In addition to private practice, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife Samantha and their three young sons enjoying the outdoors, travelling, learning new things and working out in the early mornings before the boys wake up. Jim also speaks French and Tagalog (“Filipino”), which he learned while volunteering in the Philippines from 2002 to 2004.
        Jim is a member of the Durham Region Collaborative Practice, the Durham Region Lawyers’ Association, the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Ontario.
